Last Words (Prov.5:21-23)
Proverbs 6:32 NIV “But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself.”
After the series of various teachings on signs of an adulterous, consequences of committing adultery, and the joy of fidelity, he then admonishes the son with an appeal on God’s omniscience and omnipresnce (v.21). God knows it all, and nothing is hidden from His view. From there he points out that adultery places one in bondage.
First we see in verse 22, “The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast.” Adultery acts as a restraint to the fulfillment of your destiny. You can’t go far in life if your life is spent in consistent and habitual sin of adultery.
Secondly in verse 23 “For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.” Indiscipline ultimately leads to death. In the meanwhile, not only will this sin restrain the individual from the fulfillment of their destiny, it also sets the person on a stray path.
Adultery is destructive. Fathers and mothers must take a decision to protect their families. The pleasures of adultery are fleeting, it is a bait of satan to bring destruction for generations to come. I will encourage you to go through this devotional series again and ask God for ways to communicate this same message to your children. It is no doubt a hard message, but it is very necessary in building a strong society.
