2 Corinthians 5:7 GWT “…indeed, our lives are guided by faith, not by sight.”
The life of the believing Christian is a life of faith. We are saved by grace through faith (Eph.2:8), we relate with God in fellowship by faith (1 Pet.1:8), our prayers reach God by faith (Mark 11:24), we receive health and every good thing from God by faith (Jam.1:6), we fight and win battles by faith (1 Tim.6:12). To live by faith is to live in complete obedience and diligent adherence to the word of God. Hebrews 11:1 says faith is the title deed in the realm of the things we hope to see in this natural world. As spiritual beings our lives ought to be guided by spiritual principles, and focused on spiritual things. This doesn’t deny the existence of things that we see around, but we are not guided by them, because there is a more superior realm where things are governed from.
We are by default conditioned in this world to act based on our feelings. Our feelings in turn are guided by experiences and what our senses tell us. The problem with this is that everything around that we see, including our experiences are subject to change, but faith serves as an anchor to a stable spiritual world. This is because faith has its roots in the infallible word of God.
So what’s your responsibility? Meditate in the word of God constantly, renew your thinking with what God’s word says, and let that be the basis of your action. Take decisions because of what the Bible says, not because of how you feel about it. A life guided by the Word is a life guided by faith and in turn is a life that’s filled with victory because whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world, and the victory is through faith (1John 5:4).
