Joshua 14:11-12 “11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day…”
Caleb and the tribe which he led were promised the land of Hebron for an inheritance. He was one of the two that returned from the land of Canaan with a report of faith and confidence in God. The other ten spies talked about the problem, and the opposition, “but Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”” (Num.13:30). Because of the unbelief of the people, God had to delay the delivery of the promise 40yrs. After 40yrs had passed, Joshua was raised to take the people into the Promised Land, and Caleb was still maintaining his attitude of faith. He was still expectant of his delivery and said “I am strong this day as I was…give me this mountain”.
Too many times we give up too easily on God’s promises for our lives. We are stuck talking about the problem and the opposition rather than speaking what we heard God say about the situation. As we meditate on the promises of God, the problems before us may seem big, but we ought to say with confidence, “I am well able to overcome it”. God’s word is the basis of faith. Listen to what He speaks to your heart through His word. Despite the delay and opposition you may be faced with, you must be unrelenting in your confession of faith. Caleb maintained his confession for 40 years and he was not weakened. He was strengthened because of his faith.
Grow in faith. When you are in faith, every area of your life will be strengthened in preparation to receive what it is you expect from God. You have to be sure that you are unrelenting. As believers, we are of a different caliber, Hebrews 10:39 “But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” If you know you have heard from God, don’t back down even in the face of adversity. Immovable confidence comes when we know we have heard from God. At the end of the day Joshua 14:14 says “Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb …” This will be your testimony if you are relentless!
