Proverbs 25:4 NIV “Remove the dross from the silver, and out comes material for the silversmith…”
The foundation of all success is integrity and strong character. God’s desire for His children is that we all rise to great heights in the various areas of our calling. God uses the analogy of the refining of silver to show us the process by which the character of a person is purged. When silver is being refined, it is passed in a crucible with ultra-high temperatures, the metal itself is preserved, but all the impurities are burnt and are passed on to another container. The result is a high luster material to be fashioned for use.
James the apostle exhorts that as believers, we should count it all joy when we go through diverse trials and temptations. God uses the various trials that come our way to refine our character, and as a test of our faith (Jam.1:2-4). Will you be patient enough to trust the process? God knows the right amount of pressure that we need for the refining process. Our response in the midst of trial is to have an optimistic view in light of what His Word says.
From the littlest confrontation to the biggest affliction, have a good attitude, find out what God’s Word says in that situation, and trust Him, letting your thoughts, speech and actions be guided by what God’s Word says. He has promised that He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but with every trial, there is a way of escape (1 Cor.10:13). The escape is always through faith. Faith takes hold of what God has said, and with an optimistic view, it speaks and acts in light of God’s promise. Have the confidence that at the end of the process, you will be fit for greater use by God!
