Isaiah 48:17 “Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.”
God is speaking to Israel (a type of the Church) here and He makes it clear that profit comes from His leading and instruction. To profit means to have gainful returns on effort applied. It goes beyond money. In essence God makes it clear that productive living is as a result of His instruction and leadership. In order to live a life that is full of good results, we ought to continually put our trust in God and follow His leading. The secret to profiting in life is by being led by the Spirit of God. The psalmist in Psalms 23:1-2a says “the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want, He leads me…” The word “want” actually means lack. So when God leads you will not be found wanting or lacking in any area of life.
God led Israel through the wilderness and in Isaiah 48:21 Scriptures reveal that they were never thirsty. Things around you may seem dry and paths may look closed. However there’s always a way in God. He makes ways in the wilderness and rivers in the desert (Isa.43:19), and until He illuminates the path, we will not see it. This is why it is very important that we are in tune with God. You have a responsibility to consult God always in all things; in your business, family, career, ministry etc. It’s in His leading that you will make the right decisions.
One of the ways God teaches is us is by referring us to relevant wisdom for where we may be. However we ought to be predisposed to learning. “The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” Prov.18:15. As we continually apply our hearts to understand, the Spirit of God will give us greater insight, and help us in applying the relevant knowledge to our own situations.
