The New Birth (1)

Ezekiel 36:26-27 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

The most powerful experience any human can ever have is the experience of the New Birth. This is what happens when a person becomes born again. The old nature of sin is done away with and a brand new nature that is an offspring of God Himself is given. Hence such a person has the capacity to be like God.

This experience of the new birth is a spiritual experience. At the core of all human problems is the sin that has been planted in the nature of all mankind. Sin births out every kind of problem and wickedness. Socio-economic reforms cannot solve the sin problem. They can only contain to some extent their manifestations. Reforms and the likes are similar to cutting the branches of a tree because of bad fruit, but the fact is that the roots are still planted. Placing a ban on cigarettes can only contain health related issues to an extent, but shutting down the cigarette factory stops it.

The old nature of man is a sin producing nature. A person is a sinner not because of the sins committed but because the unregenerate spirit is a sin producing plant. That’s why Jeremiah 23:9 says “the heart of man is desperately wicked”. However through the New Birth, all of that is changed, the sin problem is dealt with. The sin producing plant is shut down, and now men can operate with the divine nature upon the earth. Now your life can flourish with the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control.

The Scripture above in Ezekiel 36:26 lets us know that the old sin producing nature of man is insensitive to God (stony), but the new nature is a nature of flesh, soft and sensitized to the Spirit of God. Do you have a lifestyle that you know is not pleasing to the divine moral code? I’ll invite you at this point to ask God for a change of heart. His Word promises that God is able towards all to bring about a change, and whoever calls on the name of Jesus will not be shamed (Rom.10:12-13).
