1 John 3:9, AMP “No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and [habitually] practices sin, for God’s nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God.”
Love in its simplest form is to give of oneself. However the motives behind this vary depend either on friendship and close relations (Phileo), sexual desire (eros), motherly love (storge) or selfless love because of the God nature (agape). The first three types of love are selfish. While in action they may look selfless, they usually are tied to something. It is love “because of”. The agape love of God is the nature of God. It is love in-spite of, it is love that results from a nature. It’s the same way a dog barks, and a fish swims, not because of any other reason other than the fact that dogs bark and fishes swim.
Romans 5:8 says that the love of God was demonstrated in the fact that while we were enemies doomed for destruction with God, He still gave His Son, as a sacrifice for us to be reconciled to Him. To operate in this kind of love, is to operate like God. This agape love is the very foundation of God’s love. (1 John 4:8). Jesus in teaching His disciples said “by this shall all men know you are my disciples, because you love…” (John 13:35). It’s important to note that He is saying that love is the badge of the Christ-like one (i.e. Christian). There are so many activities that Christians engage in that can be duplicated by anyone, even the devil himself. However the God-like love cannot be feigned, it is only possible for those with the nature of God. A mule can never be mistaken for a race horse because he tried, when the bell sounds he is still a mule, but the race horse will run at top speed.
John in his epistle says that a person born of God or we can say born of love because God is love will not knowingly and habitually practice sin. In essence, it is the love nature of God on the inside of the Christian that keeps him away from sin. Every act of sin is a step outside of the love of God. Romans 13:10 reinforces this truth saying “love does no harm to its neighbor therefore love is the fulfillment of the law”. So what do you do? Get born again. To be born again is to be born by the Spirit of Love. The nature of God is created on the inside of you. When you have received this new nature through salvation in Christ Jesus, begin to exercise the love nature on the inside of you. See 1 Cor. 13:4-8. Meditate on these attributes of love and live the life of victory.
