The Love Nature – Character Foundation

1 John 3:9, AMP “No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and [habitually] practices sin, for God’s nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God.”

To be born again means you are born anew by the Spirit of God. Jesus explained this to Nicodemus in John 3:3-6. Salvation through the New Birth in Christ Jesus is the entrance into the kingdom of God. To be an heir of this kingdom, you must be of the lineage of the King. Through the New Birth we receive a new heart and a new spirit which is engrafted in God (Ezek.36:26). God is love (1 John 4:8), meaning His nature by default is love. This follows that the offspring of a love being must be a love being also. Every born again Christian is a love being that is born of a love God!

Second thing to hold in mind is that the love of God has been poured out in our hearts (Rom.5:5). So not only does a born again Christian have the nature of love, he also has been endowed with the capacity to love like God. This may sound out of the world to many people because of past encounters with nasty Christians. However the truth is that we as Christians need to train ourselves to act in line with the reality of our true selves. The process of disciplining the flesh (which is the old nature of sin), renewing the mind (which is to transform our thinking), and  cultivate the true self in the image of God.

It is a divine truth that you are a love being with a God capacity to love, but until you develop that potential within, you will continually fall in conformity to your carnal emotions. God’s love nature in you is the foundation of godly character. What is character? Well, one of the dictionary definition for character is “A distinguishing feature or attribute, as of an individual, group, or category”. To be Christian means to be “Christ-like”, so what is the distinguishing feature of those that are “Christ-like”? It is none other than love! Jesus Himself made this clear in John 13:35, saying said “by this shall all men know you are my disciples, because you love…”

To be a true Christian, develop yourself in the attributes of this God-kind of love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (Amplified) is a detailed breakdown of this love. What you ought to do is carry each description in your consciousness, and affirm it in your life. When something provokes you to act contrary, you must exercise enough restraint to resist the urge, but rather act in line with the attribute of love. This is the process of training and renewing of your mind
