1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?”
Many Christians find themselves in rough and challenging situations, and they begin to make statements like “it’s just me”, “there’s nobody to help me”. Whereas Jesus promised that He will always be with His people in the person of the Holy Spirit. In John 14:16, Jesus said, “ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever”.
The words another advocate refers to a helper who is just like Himself. Jesus had been everything to His disciples. When they need comfort, He was their comforter, when they need counsel, He would counsel them. He was their bread provider, teacher, and friend. He was everything they needed in life. However He could only be in one place at a time. But the Holy Spirit (another comforter like Jesus) is able to be with every believer at every moment. He indwells the believer. He has said in Hebrews 13:5, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” When He said never, he meant it!
We have to develop a consciousness of the Spirit’s presence to be able to take advantage of every help He has for us. The challenge we face is that He is unseen with our eyes, but we can acknowledge His presence because we have evidence in the Word of God.
To develop a consciousness of the Holy Spirit, acknowledge His presence at every moment and in every situation. The psalmist says, “If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” (Ps.139:8). The more we affirm what God’s Word says about the ever abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, the more we are convinced of His presence with us. As we develop this confidence, we will begin to discern His presence always. He is the source of all strength, wisdom, counsel, strategy, ideas, knowledge etc. Practice saying this: “Thank you Holy Spirit. I know you are always with me, and you will never live me”. Do this as often as you can and you will experience Him in a new way.
