Psalm 3:3 NIV “But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like it was just you against the world? Usually we feel like this when we have made mistakes that seem to have been overly magnified. The culprit is the devil who tries to take advantage of our mistakes and continually accuses us of past mistakes. The Bible describes the devil as the accuser of the brethren who antagonizes the brethren day and night (Rev.12:10). The mistake one can make in this situation is to buy into the devil’s lies.
Scripture reveals that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom.8:1). In essence, if you genuinely made a mistake, 1 John 2:1 was written for you, “…I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One”. If you repentantly turn towards God and ask for forgiveness, He is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1Joh.1:9). There is no need for you to hold on to your past mistakes or give heed to the voice of your accusers.
It is interesting to note that men usually hold on to accusations long after God has forgiven you. In the midst of the darkness, you need to lift your head up high and look onto God. He is your shield, He keeps you from the attacks of the devil through your accusers. If you put your complete trust in Him, He will honor you in the midst of it all, and He will restore you to a place of prestige. Never let your past get the best of you, rather look to God who is the glory and the lifter of your head!
