Ephesians 6:13-14 “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore…”
The world we live in is a battlefield, and we must understand that even though we live in the flesh, our battle is not against natural and mundane things. Our battles in this world exist in the realm of the unseen. They are against contrary thoughts that try to take grasp of our thinking. They are thoughts that challenge our perception of the integrity of God’s Word and the authority in the name of Jesus (2 Cor.10:3-5).
Did you know that your life moves in the direction of your most dominant thoughts? Likewise, the problem with these negative thoughts is that once we accept them as true, they will govern our lives and lead us to a particular destination. This is why Scripture reveals that as believers we have the responsibility to take a stand against the devil. His greatest arsenal against the believing Christian is an attack on the mind. Satan has already been defeated legally in the realm of the spirit, and Jesus by reason of His death, burial and resurrection has appropriated that victory to us (Col.2:15, Matt.28:18, Luk.10:19, Mk.16:17-20). However if the devil can take control of the mind of the believer, he can ultimately ruin the destiny of that individual.
“So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.” (Jam.4:7, amp). Notice that the onus is on you to stand firm against the devil. 1 Peter 5:18-19 describes the enemy as a lion seeking a prey, hence it admonishes us to be vigilant, and to “Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined]”. In essence, set a guard over your mind. Hire a “bouncer” to stand guard, and when situations and thoughts contrary to God’s Word and the authority in Christ present themselves to you, take a firm stand against it. For how long you might ask? For as long as it takes to keep the devil out!
