Colossians 2: 13-15, GWT “You were once dead because of your failures and your uncircumcised corrupt nature. But God made you alive with Christ when he forgave all our failures. He did this by erasing the charges that were brought against us by the written laws God had established. He took the charges away by nailing them to the cross. He stripped the rulers and authorities [of their power] and made a public spectacle of them as he celebrated his victory in Christ”
May I start out by saying demon forces exist! Some people think it is just something psychological, or some legend like medusa etc. Do not be deceived, neither should you suffer in your ignorance. There are spiritual forces that exist that seek to steal, kill and destroy the elements of a satisfactory life, and ultimately cause death (John 10:10)!
With that said, these days people are scared to mention satan’s name, as if the name should invoke some reverence. People are scared of witches/wizards, or other forms of diabolical powers. The moment it is known that a person is involved in something diabolical, fear grips the heart, and some by default ascribe respect to such a person. Well ladies and gentlemen; I have great news for you! Satan and his cohorts have been disabled! The Scripture reveals, that in times past satan had accusations against the entirety of humanity. He had man in his grasp, chained and destined for his wicked schemes, and he had a legal right to steal, to kill and destroy. But that was BC- Before Christ! The moment you entered into Christ, the Bible reveals that you were delivered from such an oppressive kingdom of darkness, and you were translated to the kingdom where Jesus is Lord (Col.1:13).
Why was Jesus able to do this? Jesus was responsible for defeating satan in open combat; when He descended to free the captives (Eph.4:8), all the demons of hell thought they had won. They thought successfully they had crucified the Savior, and they intended to keep Him bound in hell. But no! He defeated them in battle, He conquered satan in his own territory, and when Jesus was done, like David took the head of Goliath and displayed it, as a spectacle, Jesus displayed satan as a defeated foe. Jesus in his death and sufferings satisfied the claims of justice. He took the sins of men as a substitute and legally erased the accusations by which satan held humanity bound!
Once again, satan and his cohorts have been defeated. That is why at the mention of the Name of Jesus in the mouth of the believer, it invokes in the minds of demons Jesus’ conquest. They remember the day they were disarmed and disgraced. Demons shudder at that name (Jam.2:19), and the Name belongs to the believer. Is it any wonder why Jesus said “In my Name they will cast out demons…” (Mark 16:15). When confronted with something diabolical, in response, use the Name of Jesus.
All this is available for the believing Christian. Make Jesus Lord over your life today, and be a part of this great family of victors!
