Hebrews 4:1-3a “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest”
We are faced with many things on a day to day basis, and we are challenged with various things that are fighting for our attention and it is very easy to get overwhelmed and eventually get stressed. God already spoke to us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 saying we ought to walk by faith and not by sight. Our life ought to be a practical expression of the confidence we have in God and in His Word, and It is in this lifestyle we find rest.
When God spoke to Israel about the Promised Land, it seemed like a farfetched idea to Israel. They had gone in for reconnaissance and had seen all kinds of mountains, giants and situations that would keep them out of Canaan. They reported to the whole nation of Israel saying “we are like grasshoppers in our own sight” Numbers 13:32. Their problem was that they looked through the eyes of sight and not the eyes of faith. They were deluded. To look at your circumstances naturally is to have a wrong picture.
Our lives ought to be one in pursuit of the voice of God for every situation. It’s in hearing God’s voice that we are able to find rest when we mix it with faith. When God’s voice is heard, we have immovable confidence. So we’re not seeking out how to get ourselves free from trouble, but we’re able to act confidently because there’s a solution at hand.
