Matthew 25:25 NKJV “… I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours…”
The Bible in Matthew 25 records a parable Jesus told of a nobleman who gave talents to his servants. To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another 1. He gave to each according to their ability, and then he went on a far journey. When the master returned requesting an account of stewardship, the one with the five talents had in the space of time multiplied in the talent to make it ten. The same for the one given two talents. But the servant that was given one talent returned to the master saying, “I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours”. The Bible records that the nobleman rebuked this servant and called him wicked and unfaithful.
The limitation of this servant was in his perception of himself and of the master. This servant was more afraid of failing than he was motivated by the potential success of the talents given to him. He perceived that what he had was too little. This is the same attitude with many believers today. God has deposited great gifts talents and abilities in you, but you are too scared to step out. What you must do is resist the fear and labor to increase in the innate God given abilities.
Another error of the servant is that he thought the master to be one who did not labor to increase in his possessions. This is a mindset of luck. Too think success and prosperity God’s way is a product of luck is a misnomer. God’s grace is available for us to increase in our efforts in the areas of our calling. Resist your fears today and cultivate your abilities in order to reveal them!
