Prioritize God’s Presence
Genesis 39:2, NIV “The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered…”
When we think of prosperity, many things come to the mind; security, wealth, abundance of resources, peace of mind, health, joy, satifaction etc. All of these and more are available in the presence of God. The Psalmist recognized this when he said “in Your presence there is fullness of joy, and pleasures at your right hand forevermore..” (Ps.16:11). Genesis 39:2 records that God was with Joseph, and Joseph prospered. The highest praise of a person’s life work is to hear that the Lord is with them. Hence this should motivate you and I to covet the presence of God in all that we do.
We know theologically speaking that God is everywhere, and that is true, but He only manifests when we are aware of Him with our inner faculties. The story is told in Genesis 28:10- about Jacob at Beersheba, en route to Haran. He lay his head on a stone to sleep, and that night, he had a supernatural experience where he saw angels ascending and descending. Then the Lord appeared to him and reassured him of the blessing covenant made with Abraham which he inherited. Jacob woke up and said in verse 16 “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.” So all the while he thought it to be a mere resting place, but it was a sacred spot (theologians postulate that it was one of the altars raised by his grandfather Abraham). The point is this, something needed to be awakened in Jacob to be aware of the presence of God, and it was at that point he was able to receive the benefits of God’s presence.
The presence of God contains all that is needed to succeed in business. As you carry on in life, have a consciousness of God’s presence. As you are constantly aware of Him, you can ask Him questions, and He has all the answers you need (Uzziah sought God in the time of his reign over Judah, and as he did, the Lord caused him to prosper, 2 Chron.26:5). There’s also something about the sweetness of the presence that makes things attractive. There’s a sweet fragrance that emanates from one who carries the presence of God. Cultivate God’s presence by remaining in constant prayer, meditate on His Word all day long, and constantly acknowledge that He is with you.
