Romans 3:21 NIV “But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.”
Many people misunderstand the basis of Christianity which is the redemption of man from the grip of sin, and have changed the message of the gospel to living a life that is simply pure and holy. While purity and holiness are very important as the Scripture teaches, they are not the crux of the gospel. Isaiah 64:6 reveals that in our own power and piety, all that we do to please God is filthy; “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags”.
If all it required for man to be reconciled was to live right, morally and without any fault, then righteousness would have come by the law, and we wont need the Christ. But no man was cable of upholding God’s own standards of righteousness. Morality is very subjective in today’s culture, so who determines if the moral fellow is truly moral or just a little better than everyone else?
Scripture goes on to reveal that “whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it” (Jam.2:10). So with each mistake, an individual is done for. But thank God we were not left in such a mess, God reveals an alternative of being right with Him which is through the Sacrifice of Christ Jesus. Our righteous, or moral acts is not what made us pure and reconciled in God’s eye, it was the perfect work of redemption in Christ.
Christ broke the claim that sin had over our lives, and as we keep our faith and our eyes on Him, we receive every benefit of righteousness that the Father bestows.
