Living in God’s Presence (2)
Psalm 17:8 NIV “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings”
God has promised in His Word to the believer that He will never leave us, and He won’t forsake us (Heb.13:5). This is a staggering promise that He has made to us; because of His presence we have boldness in the face of adversity (Heb.13:6). We have protection (Ps.91:1). We enjoy the pleasures of life (Ps.16:11). In the midst of catastrophe and tumultuous world events, we are not moved (Isa.41:10). When we are faced with a multitude of adversaries, we have confidence (Ps.27:1,3).
You may look at your life, and these truths may not seem to be evident, not because God has left you alone (He NEVER will), the issue is that we have not learned to carry a consciousness of God’s presence. If you take a careful look at all the promises of God’s presence listed above, you will realize that they are all dependent on the consciousness of His presence. Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “You will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul”
You can press into God’s presence by your faith. Faith is your confidence in the unseen realities of God and His Word. Your faith is a basis of communion (fellowship) with God. You express your faith towards God by your constant thanks and praise (Ps.100:3-5), by meditating on God’s Word (Ps.1:1-3), and by a continuous and fervent prayer life in the spirit (Mar.1:35).
