Psalm 40:8 NIV “I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
All through Scripture we find consistency in the fact that God is a purposeful God. Every man he has called in the Scriptures, He called them for a certain purpose. We also find that their relevance and prominence in Scripture is highlighted to the degree to which God’s purpose was fulfilled through them, and the same is true for us today.
Your success in life is dependent on how closely you follow God’s plan for your life. Philippians 2:13 reveals that the sincere thoughts and desires we have within our hearts are the inner workings of God within us, both giving us the desire and ability. In order for us to be effective in this, we will have to be obedient to the instructions of God.
David said, “I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” To effectively live God’s purpose for your life will require intimacy with Him. His law is the law of love (1 Joh.3:23-24), and the Word of Truth that proceeds from His mouth (Ps.119:89). Examine your thoughts and desires by love and truth. Ask yourself if what you desire fits the God given profile of love (1 Cor.13:4-8), and seek guidance from what Scripture says about what it is you desire. Following these principles will keep you faithful in living the life God planned for you.
