Genesis 28:16 NIV “When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.””
The Bible in Genesis 28 tells the story of Jacob after he had received the blessing and left for his mother’s hometown. He left with nothing material, but Isaac had invoked the blessing over his life (Gen.28:3-4). On route, he had an encounter where God had appeared to him in a vision by night. Given Jacob’s background and history of deception, he had expected that God would be far from him. But the blessing upon Jacob’s life and the hope of a future far outweighed whatever mishaps that may have occurred in Jacob’s life.
After this divine encounter, Jacob vowed a vow saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God.” (Gen.28:20-21). He understood that the presence of God with him was all he needed to succeed. Moses understood this principle also when he said, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here” (Exo.33:15). He opted to be in the wilderness with God’s presence than to be in the Promised Land without God.
Successful king David said, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere” (Ps.84:10). Joseph was described as a successful man while he was in prison because God was with him and caused all the works of his hands to prosper (Gen.39:3). Surely God was with Jacob, and the results are evident when Jacob said “… for I crossed over this Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two companies. ” (Gen.32:10).
If you truly desire success in anything, be sure to consciously invoke God’s presence. In His presence there is fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore (Ps. 16:11). As a believer you need not worry if God will make Himself manifest because He has promised to never leave nor forsake us (Heb.13:5-6). Speak the Words of God in your situation, and call on the name of the Lord, and watch God manifest.
