1 Kings 19:12 KJV “And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”
In this story, Elijah was expecting a word from God and he was ordered to wait on God. Elijah while waiting looked for God in the strong winds, the quaking mountains and earthquakes, but nothing! Too many times we are in the midst of turbulent situations and we are on the go trying to figure things out. We are running all around hoping to get a break by our efforts. When we pray, we are not patient enough to wait for God to speak and we are it again.
Elijah found God to be in the quiet. A still small voice. We need to learn to hit the ‘pause’ button when life gets crazy. If we don’t do this we can spend weeks, months and years running around trying to calm the turbulence that comes against us. We like Jesus need to learn to rest in the midst of a storm. (Matt.8:23-27). It requires spending time in prayer and waiting on God for Him to speak.
When things get rough, pray, meditate on God’s Word and just pause. Pause daily for a few minutes expecting the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Calm down and be prepared to wait the whole day if that is what it takes, because one Word from God is all you need to change your situation.
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
