Psalm 17:3 “Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.”
The intentions and purity of your heart can only be judged by you and God, and it does matter to God. You can deceive people with your actions but the state of your heart will always be weighed by God. God honors those who are of a pure and noble hearts. His Word says the pure in heart shall see God (Matt.5:8). This means they will experience God. Many times our prayers are hindered for no other reason than the intentions of our heart.
God expects that the motives of your heart be pure. He wants your focus and your desire to always be on Him and nothing else. When we begin to focus on anything else other than God, we are forming idols. When we start acting in ways other than how we feel in our heart we are getting into witchcraft and deceit. However, there are times when we feel we need to act in ways different from how we truly feel deep down in our hearts, then what do we do?
You must sort out your heart with God. Notice what the Psalmist says 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” You have to on a daily basis examine your heart with God. His Spirit will reveal to you the true state of your heart and where and how you need to make amends. Sometimes the things you may have to do may be difficult, but I will rather have it God’s way than any other way. Besides, “pride comes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Prov.16:18)
