Jeremiah 23:29 (NKJV) ““Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”
Hebrews 11:3 reveals a vital principle of life saying “by faith through the word of God the world was framed, so that the things which we see were made from what was not seen”. Everything we see (matter) has its roots in an unseen world (spiritual).
Often times we judge the effectiveness of the Word based on what our sense tell us. However the Word of God is spiritual, and it begins to effect a change in an unseen realm before our senses detect the change. The Bible illustrates this in Mark 11 when Jesus cursed the fig tree. Verse 20 says “they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots”. Jesus in John 6:63 says the Word is spirit. Hence, when we apply spiritual principles to the circumstances that face us in life the change is not just superficial, but takes place from the roots.
As you apply the Word in your life, and things seem not to be working, remember the illustration of a stonecutter hammering away at his rock. He hammers perhaps about ninety-nine times without as much as a crack showing on the rock. Yet at the one-hundredth blow the stone splits in two. He is aware that it wasn’t the last blow that did it, but all the ninety-nine blows that have gone before.
God’s Word is ‘…a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces…’ (Jer. 23:29, NKJV). So, ‘[hold] fast to the word of life. Know that as you apply the Word, it is working up something from the root. Keep Hammering your way through situations in life.
