Romans 5:17 (Weymouth) “For if, through the transgression of the one individual, Death made use of the one individual to seize the sovereignty, all the more shall those who receive God’s overflowing grace and gift of righteousness reign as kings in Life through the one individual, Jesus Christ.”
When God created man, He gave man a mandate to dominate in life (Gen.1:26, 28). As a result of sin, man’s dominion was curtailed. However in Christ Jesus this dominion has been restored to man. It is God’s expectation that as a believer you rule and reign in life. Your ability to rule and reign in life is tied to your ability to draw on the grace of God. When God planned your life, He did not factor in your natural limitations. Therefore, for you to live a life above and beyond the natural and effectively fulfill your purpose, you must by faith draw on the grace of God. Paul in his exhortation to Timothy said, that God has called us not according to our works (or abilities), but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 1:9).
For you to fulfill the dominion mandate (i.e. rule and reign in life), you must live a life of purpose. Your priority must be the discovery of your purpose and to preoccupy yourself with your purpose. In doing this, you don’t measure your ability to succeed based on your own strength, but you are wholly dependent on God’s ability at work in your life. Notice what Philippians 2:13 says, “ [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.” (Amp.)
Apply yourself diligently to work (i.e. in the area of your purpose). Leverage on your innate abilities to produce something great. Don’t measure yourself against the challenges you face by your natural abilities. Rather, recognize that the grace of God is available, and by faith draw on this grace and transcend your natural limits. It is in doing this you will reign in life.
