2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”
In today’s world, we as Christians are pulled in so many different directions. There is the battle within us to stay the course and do the will of God versus being in alignment with the world and not looking like the odd one out. Jesus in teaching His disciples made it clear that they are different from the world. As a matter of fact He called them light and salt. The world is considered darkness, and light will always stand out in the midst of darkness. He then goes on to admonish on the dangers of being like the worlds saying, “if the salt loses its flavor…It is then good for nothing….” (Matt.5:13-16)
John in his epistle leaves us Christians with this charge, “Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.” (1 Joh.2:15-17 MSG)
Your ability to finish strong in this world is to keep your eye focused on God and live a life separated from the world. The strength to finish the race is by the grace of God. No matter what the challenge is before you, you must be relentless in your faith, obedience and service to God. God has said to come boldly to receive grace for help in time of need (Heb.4:16). Your natural abilities and willpower are no match against the world, however by the grace of God released through faith, you are able to bring the world to its knees.
