Joshua 1:8 NKJV “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Every one in life desires success. The difference from person to person is in the definitions of success. Whatever your definition of success is, we play a major role in attaining to it. Many people are lost in the mindset of, “If God wants it to happen it will happen”. God is committed to our success, this he proved when He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to redeem humanity. He has done all that is necessary for us succeed in life, it is up to us to take ownership of all that has been done for us in redemption. God gave Joshua the perfect approach to success in Joshua 1:8, saying meditate in My Word day and night. In this, God helps us understand that the definition of success in life is in one’s agreement with what His Word says.
Meditating on the word of God day and night, and living by the word of God establishes our prosperity. Meditating in the Word simply means to focus one’s thoughts, ponder and think deeply on God and his word. The Bible teaches us that the man who delights and meditates in the law of the Lord day and night will prosper in whatever he does (Ps.1:1-3). It’s not just enough to meditate; God spells clearly the purpose of meditation, “that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it”. It’s in taking action upon the Word of God that produces the good success in life. The promises of God’s word are like a seed, and until they are planted and nurtured, they remain dormant, even though their full potential may be known. James tells us that it is not the hearer of the Word that is blessed, but the doer (Jam.1:25).
Are you committed to meditating on God’s word? Do you have a plan to do what you have seen from God’s word? In what ways do you remind yourself to meditate on the word of God daily? When we meditate and act on God’s word, we have an assurance of His presence even though tough times may arise, He has promised do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Make a commitment to reflect on and act on God’s word throughout the day as that is the way to prosperity, and your guarantee of success.
