1 Corinthians 3:9 NLT “For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.”
A fertile field does not determine what it produces. It is the responsibility of the farmer to plant seed and cultivate the field and in due time it will produce a corresponding harvest. A farmer who does not make deliberate efforts at cultivating his or her field will watch it overgrown with weeds and destructive plant. On the same field, wheat for food and poisonous plants can be cultivated and both will grow, producing a harvest.
We like an open and fertile field have been purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ to be cultivated to the fullness of what Christ wrought for us in redemption. We are God’s co-laborers. We have the responsibility of planting the right seeds within. If we leave our minds to roam and be fed by things that surround us, we would end up like the fertile field overgrown with weeds.
Notice what Jesus says in Matthew 12:35, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.” We can put in us treasures of faith, hope, love, grace, victory, prosperity, health etc, and that is what we will in turn produce. But like a farmer who takes deliberate efforts to plant and cultivate his field, we also must be deliberate about what seeds we plant in our hearts.
