Psalm 16:7-8 NIV “I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons 8 I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”
Most of us seek counsel from “knowledgeable” individuals on various issues and somehow forget to seek counsel from God, the One who has all knowledge (1 Sam.2:3). Not only does God possess all wisdom and all knowledge, He is always available and willing to give us counsel regarding any situation you are faced with. We can trust in God’s unlimited knowledge and be secure in the instructions we receive from God in our spirits. We can be confident and remain “unmoved” during rough situations when we base our decisions on God’s counsel. Victory is sure when we receive counsel from God. We know from 1 John 5:4 that “whatever is born of God overcomes, and this is the victory that has overcome the world…” Hence if the counsel we act on is born of (originates from) God, it certainly will not fail. This in itself produces confidence for us, because like the psalmist you too can say I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Make it a practice to search your heart for counsel that comes from God’s Spirit, and be committed to seeking out God’s thoughts on every situation because that is the guarantee for victory. The Bible says to trust God with all your heart, this means a complete and total reliance on His ability to lead and instruct you. Do not lean on your own understanding because it is very limited, and dependent on the information available to you. Constantly and at all times acknowledge Him before every action, while you’re thinking about it, while your making your plans, and He will respond to you by directing your path (Prov.3:5-6). Don’t expect an audible voice, rather, pay attention to the subtle inklings of your heart because you have the Spirit of God in you.
We can only seek, and trust the counsel from someone we know. Do you have a relationship with God? Do you seek God’s counsel during rough situations? Build a relationship with God by reading his word and talking to him daily. Set yourself up for your daily victory by committing your plans to God and watch your life produce fruit in abundance.
