Psalm 46:1 NIV “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God is a refuge and a deliverer for the righteous. A place of refuge is where you are kept safe from danger, providing shelter for you. In life, Jesus guaranteed that we would face difficulty and troublesome times, but He urged that we remain cheerful in the midst of it all because He overcame (Joh.16:33). As believers we need to constantly keep in mind that no matter how difficult things may seem, God promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Heb.13:6). This ought to give us boldness in the face of adversity.
Joseph while in prison was tagged a success by all who knew him because “God was with him” (Gen.39:3). Despite the fact that he was in prison and had faced one difficulty to the other on his way to the fulfillment of his destiny, he had formed the character and inner fortitude to trust God in the midst of it all. He wasn’t grumpy or depressed, but his confidence was in God!
Notice what God promises in Isaiah 43:2 “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (NLT). Now that’s something to remember! Tough times will pass, and for as long as we can hold on to God’s promises and keep in mind that He is with us, we surely will be victorious.
