Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day: Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them “I never knew you: depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness
– Matthew 7:21-23
As Christians many of us recognize that prioritizing God is critical but fail to truly acknowledge Him in our every choice and decision. I am guilty of bringing many different ideas to the Lord and praying about how to accomplish these goals. However, the Lord has shown me that I must take it a step further by asking Him “is this a God idea or just at good idea”.
Have you ever considered that making haphazard choices or quick decision without consulting the Lord is lawlessness? It is not enough to just acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior we must seek to be in His perfect will. In Matthew 7: 21 we see that there are those who acknowledge Jesus but are still not doing the will of the Father. Their works appeared to be aligned with what was right. Later we see that the Lord calls them workers of iniquity or lawlessness (Matthew 7:23). The works that we do must be in the will of the Father. Jesus is our example of this. He only did what the Father told him (John 8:28-29). Let this be our testimony as well.
Lord, we thank you for the ability to come boldly to the throne of grace to make our request known. God please give us wisdom concerning every endeavor we undertake (James 1:5). God lead us and guide us in all of our choices and decisions and let us not make decisions based on flesh and self-will that are not truly in your will.
