1 Timothy 6:12 NLT “Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses”
To live the life of faith is to live the life of a fighter. Notice the Scripture admonishes us to fight the fight of faith. Not our neighbors, families or the devil. Our fight is the fight of faith! The fight of faith is the fight to hold as true the spiritual realities that have be won for us as Christians in Christ Jesus versus the experiences and difficulties we face in this world. As we live our lives in the earth realm many situations challenge us and challenge our belief in what God’s Word says, but it is our responsibility to lay hold of the eternal realities.
The Scripture above says, “Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you”. This life is not something that we can grab physically. This eternal life is the sum total of all our rights, benefits and privileges we enjoy as New Creations in Christ Jesus, and they are all spelled out in our New Covenant with God. We are called to hold tightly! Imagine I place a 10oz gold bar in your hands openly in a very rowdy market place and I say, “hold tightly!” Because you know the gold bar is valuable (about $14,500), you will have a vigilant attitude towards my instruction. You will be on the lookout for anyone that looks like he or she wants to grab it from you. If someone tried to reach for it, you will react violently to keep it tightly within your grasp.
Likewise we must have the same vigilant attitude with our faith. John 10:10 reveals that Satan is the thief who desires to steal, kill and destroy, but it is our responsibility to hold tightly to all that God has done for us in Christ Jesus. This is what the fight of faith is all about! When the devil speaks a lie that challenges the reality of God’s promise, you must react violently in your words and attitude. When he whispers, “you will not amount to anything”, you must fight back with three Scriptures that promise your victory and prominence in life (Deut.28:12, Isa.60:1-3, 1 Cor.2:9). Never let any lie from the enemy go unanswered! This is the fight of faith.
