Isaiah 54:2-3 (NKJV) “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings…For you shall expand to the right and to the left”
Do you sometimes wonder why some people seem to achieve and get a lot more done than others? The answer is capacity! Jesus in Luke 16:10 makes us understand that whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. People who have a portfolio of duties and responsibilities and are committed, have learned the art of effectively and faithfully managing small tasks. They have learned diligence, which is the persevering application of oneself to compete a task.
Enlarged capacity is not only about being diligent, because a person cannot go beyond their mental and spiritual conditioning. While many would like to get involved in more activities (though increased activity doesn’t equal productivity), majority are lacking in the mental, spiritual and physical capacity to effectively undertake such activities. Jabez in the Bible was a person who realized that he was lacking in capacity. One day, he prayed from the depth of his heart saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!”, and it is recorded that God granted him what he requested” (1 Chron.4:10)
It takes a dedicated and consistent prayer life, diligence in obeying God’s word and a deliberate attitude of God’s love to develop one’s spiritual capacity. It doesn’t stop here, we are also expected to develop our minds. Training and exercising the mental faculties through reading a wide variety of books, learning new skills and taking up cognitive challenges will help give an edge over others.
Begin to enlarge your capacity today, it is God’s desire for you, and necessary for your promotion in life!
