1 Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV) “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
LABOR PROMPTED BY LOVE: Have you ever seen a person working diligently and wondered what was in it for him? That’s typical in this day to see people working enough to get paid, and keep a job, however the Bible sheds light on a better way, which is labor prompted by love. Love is an attitude rooted in a nature that seeks to give advantage to others. Since the fall of mankind, the flesh of man has clamored for a selfish satisfaction of all desires, which is why it is very unusual for someone to exercise much diligence without any expectation of equal reward.
The love that prompts this kind of selfless labor is the God kind of love. 1 John 4:7 says “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love”. It takes intimacy with Supreme Love (God), to be able to love like this. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 conveniently gives a resume of the attributes of this kind of love. A renewed thought life to this New Way of Love by God’s word is what will prompt diligent work prompted by love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 ties it all up for us “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love”
Is there a little more you can do just so you can give another person advantage? Exercise patience today, and be kind while you’re doing it, and watch the power of God being released at your place of work!
