Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Jesus in His teachings showed us the key to standing when everything around comes against us, and the secret is in diligently adhering to what He taught. Many times we hear Scriptural principles, but we fail to put them into practice because we have not meditated on them long enough till it becomes part of the inner consciousness. Once a habit, or a lifestyle becomes part of your inner consciousness then you will do it naturally without thinking. Psychologists tell us that about 80% of our daily activity is automated. It is this activity cycle that determines success or failure in life. Many people have vowed to stop destructive habits that they maybe saw in their parents, but because these habits were written as a part of their inner consciousness, though they hate the behavior, they can’t stop it.
In John 8:31-32 Jesus gives us the key, by saying “if you abide in my words…you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. To abide is to spend time and make that place your home. In essence Jesus is saying ‘if you rest your thoughts on my word, then you will become intimate with this truth from my word, and that will make you free’. Are there limiting habits that you engage in which you know are destructive? Search out scriptures and begin to meditate on them.
Notice what God says to Joshua “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Josh.1:8). You will meditate on the words of God until your eyes begin to open, then you will be able to see what exactly you need to do. It is then that the truth will make you free!
