John 10:14 (NKJV) “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.”
A shepherd is one who cares for sheep, feeding, guiding and guarding the flock. A shepherd has great concern for the welfare of his sheep. Jesus says He is the Good Shepherd, Psalm 23 gives a perfect picture of the role of the shepherd. Jesus has deep concern and love for His sheep- the Church.
In understanding the shepherd sheep relationship, it is understood that sheep are sensitive to the call and direction of the shepherd. A sheep that refuses to heed the call of the shepherd will be in great danger of being devoured by wild beast. Do you get the picture? How many believers actually know God? Yet in the midst of troublesome times we run to a closet crying, and begging God saying we are praying. Many of our so called prayers will be unnecessary if we have learned to follow the leading and direction of the shepherd. He has said “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will guide you with My eye” (Ps.32:8)
Develop communion with God and you will get to know the voice of the Good Shepherd. Do the following to develop your sensitivity (1) Spend deliberate time in the Word of God daily (2) Pray out the Scriptures through the day (3) Have several moments of quietness during the day to acknowledge His presence and your love for Him. Do this and watch your relationship with Him take a new dimension.
