Develop your talents, gifts and abilities
Proverbs 22:29 NIV “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank”
In the book Outliers, author Malcolm Gladwell says that it takes roughly ten thousand hours of practice to achieve mastery in a field. If you desire success, you must commit yourself to immense hours of training, cultivating and refining your raw abilities.
Nothing holds as great a value when it is still in its raw state. A barrel of crude oil is worth roughly 3.5 times more after it is refined. Gold is more valuable, revealing more luster, when it is smelted, beaten, and shaped. Likewise, a cut and polished diamond sparkles and is worth more than a diamond in the rough.
People have learned to dig the earth tirelessly in search of wealth, but very few have learned to apply the same devotion in cultivating the wealth of resources that lies deep within their soul. Friend, all that goes toward making you a success is already within you, and you have the responsibility to find, train, and make them work for you. Whatever gift, talent or ability you have, keep practicing, keep training, and keep getting better. Be hard on yourself, be diligent, and be regimented. Don’t stop trying, working, cultivating, and developing what you’ve got.
If you desire success, never be satisfied with what you have accomplished, but always seek improvement. There is always a greater level of expertise; go after it. Develop a discontent for everything that is average in your life. Cultivate yourself to improve your mind and your natural abilities, and you will soon be among the world renowned.
