Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
To be led means there is another who goes before you and gives guidance in the paths to follow. God desires more than anything to be the leader of all men. The psalmist in Psalms 23:1-2a says “the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want, He leads me…” Anyone who has received Jesus as Lord and savior ought to have a lifestyle of being led of God. This is what makes the Christian experience exciting. Others are limited to making decisions based on the information available and past experience. However for the son of God, there is a higher level of decision making capability, and this comes from the One who is not bound by time.
God speaks to His children. One of the most common ways by which God leads men is through the inward witness. Romans 8:16 says “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God”. This refers to a sense of inner peace concerning a question or a decision in point. From this Scripture in Romans 8:16, we can train ourselves to understand what the inward witness is. Simply stop to think, if life were to end at this point, can I boldly say that I will be with God for the rest of eternity. Now here’s what to check: Check inside of you, does your spirit agree with the question? Are you comfortable with the idea of eternity with God? Don’t check with your mind or what people have taught you etc. Let your heart really speak as led by the Spirit of God.
This inward witness you must train yourself to follow. This is a primary way by which God will lead you. Ask the Spirit of God within you questions, and check if there’s a witness in your heart to go ahead or to desist from a decision. He will show you the way, Jesus promises also that He will show you things to come (John 16:12).
