Becoming a Better Christian (2)
1 Timothy 2:4 NKJV “[God] who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”
After salvation through the New Birth, God expects that all men come to know what truth is. In today’s world, there is a theory of relativism that seems to be pervasive. This makes is challenging for people to become better Christians. Relativism is the concept that there is no absolute truth or validity in perception. A simple repudiation of this theory is in asking if relativism is a relative or absolute truth in itself.
Relativism can only be true if there is no reference for truth. God is the reference for truth for all humanity. Jesus in His prayer for the disciples said in John 17:17 ESV, “sanctify them by your truth, because your word is truth” (a prayer for anyone who desires to be a better Christian). God’s desire is for all men to know truth. Relativist thinking is detrimental to the growth and progress of society because it accepts “truth” based on perception and changing circumstances.
For you to become a better Christian, pursue the truth of God’s Word concerning every area of your life. Prayerfully search out Scriptures, having the expectation that the Holy Spirit will teach you and reveal God’s truth in your heart. The truth of God’s Word is absolute, and it ought to be preached uncompromisingly. The uncompromising truth of God’s Word will instruct you in the way of righteousness, and rebuke you so you can be a better Christian. The result will ultimately produce profitable results in your life. The results being a better Christian life.
