Have the courage to believe
Joshua 1:9, NIV “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
A life without courage is a drag! Courage is the state of mind whereby you are willing and ready to take action in the face of fear. It takes courage for you to reach beyond your comfort zone in order to lay hold of the things you really desire in life.
As Joshua prepared to take Israel into the Promised Land, he was encouraged with these words, “Be strong and courageous”. The reason why he would have needed encouragement would be because he was anxious. Though Joshua had spied the Promised Land, and he was one of the two that brought back a message of possibility and faith, he was anxious when the time for action came. The facts were that the cities promised were fortified, the giants occupied the land, and measuring their military might in human terms, Israel was no match (Num.13:27-28). However the truth is that God had given them the land (Lev.20:24).
Friend, for you to enjoy any of God’s promises, you will need the confidence and the courage to face the facts (giants) of your life. While you are not to live in denial of the facts, your focus should be on the of God’s Word (2 Cor.4:18, Heb.11:3, Joh.17:17). Once God speaks, He is faithful to bring His word to pass. Our response is faith, and faith requires the courage to believe God’s Word despite the facts.
