Joshua 1:9, NIV “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for theLord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
When God chose Joshua to be Moses’ replacement in taking the Israelites across the Jordan to the Promised Land, he must have felt like he was stepping into something much bigger than him. First of all, he had seen how God used Moses to plague Egypt, split the Red Sea, cause water to flow from the rock in the wilderness, and feed Israel with manna. He also saw Moses’ face glow from the residue of God’s glory after the mountain top encounter. On the other hand, he saw how stubborn and rebellious the people he was to lead could be. As honorable as the call was, the challenges and expectations he had to meet up to were great. But God kept speaking these words, “be strong and be courageous” (Josh.1:6, 7, 9).
That “thing” that is on your heart to do might seem impossible, but God never intended for you to do it without Him. Your mind may be screaming with so many reasons as to why you are incapable. But the charge to you is this, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for theLord your God will be with you”. G0d is waiting for you to step out in faith so that He can be glorified in your life!
You may say, “How do I know it is from God?” The answer is simple. Check yourself with these questions: Is it a good idea? Every good and perfect gift is from God. Is the task bigger than what you would normally undertake? If so, then it requires faith. Does the vision have the potential to bless others? Does it reach beyond your own personal gratification? Finally, will it reveal Christ’s love? If the answer to all these questions is ‘yes’, then step out in faith and do it because God is with you!
