Be a Light in Darkness
Isaiah 60:1-2 NIV “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth…”
The word “arise” means to awaken to a reality, and to come out from underneath something. God’s desire for all of us is that we awaken to the consciousness of who we are in Christ and what belongs to us in Christ. It is a call to be a light in the midst of darkness.
Many Christians are living under the influence of circumstances rather than dominating in life. The life of God; the very essence of God is within every believing Christian, and it is expected that a believer by faith tap into this life of God and begin to shine in the world. To shine means to be a source of illumination. Darkness is illustrative of literal darkness, confusion, and evil. It is expected that we as Christians be the light in the darkness of the world (Matt.5:14).
For you to be a light in the midst of darkness you must first arise; come alive to the fact that you are the source and solution that the world needs. You must be convinced about this to the point that it motivates you to take action to be a light in darkness. Go on a quest to seek out information that you can apply to bring a solution. Go after wisdom; Solomon said wisdom is the principal thing (Prov.4:7).
Finally, you must by faith confront the challenges that you are faced with. This means that no matter what it is you are faced with, you are not moved, but you only respond based on the convictions of God’s Word. Faith is what brings the world to its knees, and you can only win the battles of life through faith in God and His Word (1 Joh.5:4).
