1 Corinthians 12:13 NIV “ For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.”
When you became born again, you were joined as part of the body of Christ. You became joined in spirit, through the Spirit of Christ, to every other person who has confessed Jesus as Lord. Baptism into Christ (or the born again experience) creates in you a heart of love. As we grow, we are expected to develop ourselves in this attitude of love. We witness a picture of this love attitude in the early church, where it says “…that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales” (Acts 4:34).
It is this unity in body that fosters the growth of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:16 reveals how this happens, “From him [Christ] the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” It is through each part of the body adding value in the spirit of love. The unity in the bond of love is the strength of the church. As Jesus taught, “a house divided cannot stand”. (Mark 3:25).
Each part of the body is important in the work that it does. If your finger hurts, then you feel uncomfortable for the day. Likewise when a member of the body hurts, it affects the body as a whole. Also we must avoid any form of division through malice, envy, gossip etc. As one who is baptized into the body, let your focus be on serving with your gift to the utmost, and sacrificially loving each member of the body. In this, there is a blessing (Ps.133).
