Do as occasion demands
1 Samuel 10:6,7 NKJV “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you…, and you will…be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands…”
There is an anointing that comes upon a person for service of God’s work. God has given each person a purpose, and for you to be effective in the place of your purpose, you must function by the anointing. 2 Tim.1:9 says that we have been called with a holy calling, not by our own works, but by God’s purpose, and corresponding grace. The anointing upon your life for you to fulfill purpose is God’s empowerment upon you to do the will of God.
After Saul was anointed as king, Samuel told him that there will be certain signs to confirm his anointing. A major part of Saul’s service was in delivering Israel from the oppression of the Philistines. After Saul was anointed, a time would come when Saul would need to act, and Samuel’s instructions were, “do as the occasion demands”.
Many of us today need to take the same instruction to heart. As you trust God for the next steps of your life, recognize that He called you, gave you a purpose and anointed you. Don’t be stagnant. Trust that with each conviction to act He is with you. Rather than wait, do as the occasion demands. Do whatever is in your heart to do at the moment, and do it with all your might. The anointing of God upon your life works with boldness, action and movement. It is like the oil in a machine, its effect is only seen when the wheels are in motion.
