Proverbs 17:3 NIV “The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.”
Gold or silver in their raw form is mixed with dirt and impurities. They are sometimes bound with other metals that make them look dull and unattractive. However when they go through the refinement process they are passed through a crucible at ultrahigh temperatures that first burn up all the dirt into carbon, and in the process the other binding metals are removed. The process of refining gold and silver reveals the purity and luster of these precious metals in their best forms.
The scripture reveals that the trials we face in live are a process of refining for us. Our attitude to the difficult times we face are a test and formation of our character. The apostle Peter in his letter to the church says, “In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire…” (1 Pet.1:6-7). James 1:2-3 says, “ Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
Do not let the pressure of your circumstances cause you to fail. Keep your eyes focused on the promises of God and let your character be formed through these tough times that the purity of your faith may be revealed. It is after this that you will experience the full joy of the salvation you enjoy in Christ Jesus.
