Living in God’s Presence (3)

Psalm 17:8 NIV “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings”

The story is told in the Old Testament of Jacob en-route from Beersheba to Haran, and he stopped at a certain place, where he had a supernatural experience while he was asleep. The Bible records that when he awoke, he said “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” (Gen.28:16). This typifies the life of many Christians. God has said He will never leave you nor forsake you (Joh.14:18), He has given you His Holy Spirit who indwells you (1 Cor.3:16), but you carry on in life without an intimate knowledge of this fact.

Because God’s presence cannot be discerned with our natural senses, you must by faith lay hold of this consciousness. Make the following three things a part of your life for you to cultivate the knowledge of God’s abiding presence:

  1. Thanksgiving and Praise (Ps.100:3-5): The shed blood of Jesus gives you access to God’s presence without shame or guilt. Every time you acknowledge God’s benevolence and faithfulness towards you, it reinforces in your heart that He is with you, and in turn you experience increased manifestations of God in your life.
  2. Meditating in God’s Word (Joh.1:1-5): The Word of God is one with His person. As you meditate on God’s Word, the Holy Spirit reveals to you the secret things of God. You are able to hear and understand God’s working in your life. A consciousness of God’s Word increases the consciousness of God’s presence in your life, because your faith is strengthened (See 1Joh.1:1-4).
  3. A continuous and fervent prayer life in the spirit (Mar.1:35): Praying in the spirit is to pray as inspired by the Holy Spirit. It requires a deep consciousness of the Holy Spirit’s role in your prayer time. Romans 8:26 says that the Spirit of God takes hold together with us in prayer when we are weakened in understanding how to pray.

Scriptures to Meditate: 1 Joh. 1:1-4, Joh.15:7, Ps.1:1-3, Eph.6:18, Jud.1:24-25
