Philippians 3:13-14 “…one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Every failure or success in life will eventually be behind us, but in the same vein they can also be an enemy of our progress. A past success should be just what it is, an accomplishment of the past, and the focus must be to accomplish new things. Likewise setbacks in the past should be left in the past. As a matter of fact, the setbacks we encounter in life are situations that I believe can effectively prepare us for the destination that we are going to. Whichever the case may be, Paul says I forget the things which are behind me!

I suggest that you look at difficult situations as setbacks and not failures. Failure suggests a default state of perpetual inability to accomplish something. You must leave those things in the past and press forward. God is committed to our success. He planted the purpose in you, and He caused you to be introduced in the world at this point in time for the fulfillment of something great.

Whatever you may have faced in the past, Romans 8:28 says “we know that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose”. It says “and we know”― referring to definite and inferential knowledge resulting from numerous personal experiences. So if you are operating in what you know concerning God’s purpose for your life, and you are committed to loving Him, you can know with certainty that whatever predicament you may face will eventually turn out for your good.

Pick yourself up, leave the past where it belongs, and look to the hope of the future you have in Christ Jesus.
