Joshua 18:3, KJV “And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you”

God had promised Israel the land of Canaan which was God’s best for them. Through the leadership of Joshua the children of Israel began to possess land that was promised; on their journey to Canaan, every place they walked through was covenanted to them by God (Josh.1:3-5). In the later years of Joshua’s life, there still remained cities in the land of Canaan that still needed to be taken. Joshua had done his part in taken the people into Canaan, and the land had been divided amongst the tribes, but he realized that all that was apportioned had not yet be taken, hence the question in the Scripture above.

There are many blessings that God has promised in His Word to us, but sometimes we don’t see the manifestation as it is written in the pages of Scripture. The reality of the fact is that though God has given us great things ― Eph.1:3 says He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, we still have to be diligent in taken possession on what has been given.  You have a responsibility to apply yourself to the promises of God in the Bible. God has said you are the head and not the tail, so you must diligently apply yourself to reaching the top in all that you do. He has said you are healed, so you must resist sickness in your body in any form. He has said you are righteous, so you must diligently act like a righteous person, resisting sin and the temptation to in every way.

I ask the question again, “How long will you remain slack?” The land is there, it is good, it is waiting for you to take possession. Begin to make plans and deliberately take action by which you will take possession of God’s promises in your life. These things won’t just happen. You have to fight to make it a reality in your life. God’s word is settled, but you have the responsibility by faith and diligent work to make it your own reality.
